Strong monsoon system active in Madhya Pradesh; alert issued for 21 districts; heavy showers lash Bhopal; check IMD prediction and alerts
A strong rainfall system has become active in Madhya Pradesh, a state that had been grappling with drought-like conditions. Due to the monsoon trough and a low-pressure area, flood-like situations emerged in several districts of the state on Sunday
. A heavy rainfall alert remains in effect for 21 districts on Monday as well.
Intermittent rainfall was reported in Bhopal, Balaghat, Biaora, Vidisha, Harda, Mandla, and Narsinghpur.
Orange Alert
According to the India Meteorological Centre (IMD), an 'Orange Alert' for extremely heavy rainfall has been issued for Rajgarh, Vidisha, Sehore, Harda, and Dewas for Monday; up to 8 inches (20 CM) of rainfall could occur in these areas over the next 24 hours.
Heavy rainfall alert
Meanwhile, a heavy rainfall alert has been issued for Ujjain, Agar-Malwa, Shajapur, Khandwa, Raisen, Narmadapuram, Betul, Pandhurna, Chhindwara, Narsinghpur, Sagar, Damoh, Jabalpur, Guna, Shivpuri, and Sheopur.
Additionally, varying intensities of rain—ranging from heavy to light—are expected to continue in Bhopal, Indore, Dhar, Alirajpur, Burhanpur, Barwani, Khargone, Jhabua, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Gwalior, Datia, Ashoknagar, Morena, Bhind, Katni, Chhindwara, Seoni, Narsinghpur, Balaghat, Mandla, Dindori, Pandhurna, Rewa, Satna, Sidhi, Singrauli, Mauganj, Maihar, Shahdol, Umaria, Anuppur, Panna, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, and Niwari.
Two-day spell of heavy rain
Weather expert Shailendra Kumar Nayak stated that monsoon activity has intensified following the formation of the current low-pressure area. However, this spell of heavy rain is expected to last for only two days.
New cyclonic circulation likely to form
A new cyclonic circulation is likely to form near the northern Bay of Bengal and the West Bengal-Bangladesh coast around August 11. Under its influence, a new low-pressure area is likely to develop on August 13. Light rainfall is indicated for August 12–13.
Child dies in house collapses in Dindori
Earlier, a mud house collapsed in Dindori due to heavy rain on Sunday, resulting in the death of 7-year-old child Raja, who was trapped under the debris. Water from the Narmada River is flowing over the bridge, and seven families living along the banks have been relocated to a night shelter.
Narmada level rising in Mandla
The water level of the Narmada River is rising rapidly in Mandla as well. It stood at 435 meters at 9 AM on Sunday but crossed the warning level to reach 437.6 meters by 4 PM. The low-level bridge (rapta) has been submerged.
In Umaria, water was released from the Johila Dam (associated with the Sanjay Gandhi Thermal Power Station) by opening five gates to a height of 11 meters.
Earlier, Dindori recorded 6 inches of rainfall between 9 PM Saturday and 6 AM Sunday. Balaghat recorded an average of 2.25 inches of rain over 24 hours, with Birsa Tehsil receiving the highest amount at 3.5 inches.

Continuous rain in the Pathari area of Vidisha district has caused local rivers and streams to swell. Water is flowing over the Rahti River bridge on the Pathari-Chhapara route; despite this, people are risking their lives to cross the bridge.
