This village close to Betul dist in MP is country's geographical center, Sarika Gharu explains
Betul: Efforts are underway to establish Barsali village—located approximately 16 kilometers from Betul, headquarters Madhya Pradesh—as the geographical center of India.
National Award-winning astronomer and science communicator Sarika Gharu has appealed to citizens to visit Barsali this Independence Day and pay their respects to 'Bharat Mata'.
Citing mathematical data, Sarika explained that geographically, India's southernmost point is 'Indira Point' on Great Nicobar Island, situated at 6° 45' North latitude. Conversely, the country's northernmost point is 'Indira Col' in Ladakh, located at 37° 6' North latitude. The mathematical midpoint between these two extremes is 21° 55' 30'' North latitude, and Barsali village is situated in the vicinity of this latitude.
Sarika said that Barsali is located about 16 kilometers east of the Betul railway station. Barsali also has its own railway station, making it easily accessible. She stated that this location, which holds significant astronomical and geographical importance, could be prominently established on the tourism map.
