Ujjain's Vidhi Sharma and Utkarsha Pal bring glory to the nation; win Gold at international badminton tournament in Nepal
Ujjain: Two promising players from Ujjain, Vidhi Sharma and Utkarsha Pal, have won the gold medal in the doubles event at the Indo-Nepal International Badminton Tournament that concluded recently in Nepal. By defeating the Chinese team in the final match, both players secured the top spot and brought pride to India.
Vidhi Sharma (a resident of Tarana) and Utkarsha Pal (a resident of Ujjain), both students of Samrat Vikramaditya University, were selected for this international competition under the 'Khelo India' initiative. Vidhi Sharma is pursuing a PG Diploma at the university's School of Yoga Studies, while Utkarsha Pal is studying for an M.A. in Yoga.
The duo defeated the Indonesian team in the quarter-finals and the Malaysian team in the semi-finals before clinching the gold medal by beating the Chinese team in the final.
Teams from 25 countries participated in the tournament. Vidhi Sharma and Utkarsha Pal represented India by demonstrating excellent coordination, sporting skills, and confidence.
Prior to this, both players had delivered outstanding performances in various university and national-level badminton competitions.
Vidhi Sharma mentioned that she received the opportunity to participate in this international tournament following a selection process held in Delhi under 'Khelo India'. The team secured the gold medal through consistently strong performances in the quarter-final, semi-final, and final matches.
Vidhi Sharma's father, Mukesh Sharma, expressed happiness over the achievement, stating that it is a matter of pride for the entire family as well as for Ujjain and Madhya Pradesh. Both players have brought honor to the country and Ujjain through their excellent performance on the international stage.
Both players will arrive in Ujjain on August 15, where preparations for their welcome are underway. This achievement is a moment of pride not only for the players but also for Samrat Vikramaditya University and the Ujjain district.
