Big Boost to milk processing and production of value-added milk products in Madhya Pradesh: Amit Shah to inaugurate fermented product dairy plant in Bhopal
As an important step towards giving new momentum to milk processing and production of value-added milk products in Madhya Pradesh, the Fermented Product Dairy Plant established on the Bhopal Cooperative Milk Union premises will be inaugurated on October 3 by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah.
The project has been prepared with a grant of Rs 6 crore from the Government of India and a contribution of Rs 10.80 crore from Bhopal Cooperative Milk Union. The total cost of the project is Rs 16.80 crore. The plant has a milk processing capacity of 40,000 litres per day.
Various Value-Added Milk Products to be Prepared Daily
Various value-added milk products will be prepared at the Fermented Product Dairy using modern machinery and technology. As per the project, the facility will have the capacity to produce 10,000 litres of milk, 10,000 litres of curd and 30,000 litres of buttermilk daily.
In addition, it will be able to produce 1,000 litres of lassi, 800 kilograms of shrikhand and 1,000 kilograms of mawa every day. Through this plant, the production of various products made from milk will be linked with a modern and systematic processing system. This will help increase the production capacity and variety of Sanchi’s value-added milk products.
Expansion of Sanchi’s Value-Added Products
Operation of the Fermented Product Dairy will help increase the availability of Sanchi’s value-added milk products. The modern processing facility will enable large-scale production of products such as curd, buttermilk, lassi, shrikhand and mawa according to consumer needs. Through value addition, milk can be converted into various products to increase its utility, while providing an opportunity to further strengthen the entire chain of milk processing and marketing.
Managing Director of Bhopal Cooperative Milk Union Maryadit Jaidev Biswas said, “The Fermented Product Dairy Plant is an important initiative for Bhopal Milk Union in the direction of modern milk processing and value addition. Through this plant, production of various value-added products including curd, buttermilk, lassi, shrikhand and mawa will be promoted. This project, prepared with the support of the Government of India and contribution from Bhopal Milk Union, is an important step towards linking the cooperative dairy system with modern technology".
Modern Processing Facilities to Receive a Boost
Along with the existing milk processing infrastructure of Bhopal Cooperative Milk Union, this new plant will provide additional infrastructure for the production of value-added products. This will promote diversification of milk products and modern processing. The Fermented Product Dairy will increase the capacity to prepare various products from milk and help ensure availability of products according to market demand.

Increase in milk processing capacity and expansion of value-added products are important for strengthening the cooperative dairy system. This modern technology-based plant will help promote processing, value addition and product diversification in the field of dairy cooperatives. The inauguration of the Fermented Product Dairy Plant established at Bhopal Cooperative Milk Union will be an important achievement in the direction of modern milk processing and expansion of value-added products.
