Female cheetah CCB2 from Botswana set to roam the wilds of Gandhisagar; CM Mohan Yadav to release her in open forest
Bhopal: On Sunday, Madhya Pradesh CM Dr. Mohan Yadav will release CCB2—a female cheetah brought to India from Botswana—into the forests of the Gandhisagar Sanctuary. With the arrival of this new female cheetah, the sanctuary will be home to a total of four cheetahs: two males and two females.
This move will bolster efforts toward cheetah conservation and reintroduction at Gandhisagar. CCB2’s journey embodies the ongoing expansion of 'Project Cheetah' and the effort to revive the cheetah's legacy in India. Her transit—from Botswana to India, and subsequently from Kuno to Gandhisagar—marks the beginning of the next chapter in cheetah conservation within a new wildlife ecosystem.
The three cheetahs already present at Gandhisagar Sanctuary are eagerly awaiting the arrival of CCB2, the new female who represents hope for a new generation of cheetahs in India. After completing her quarantine period, CCB2 was released into the Kuno forest in May 2026, where she adapted quickly and effortlessly to Indian conditions.
CCB2 harmonized with the local forest landscape and integrated herself into the Kuno ecosystem. She is now being relocated from Kuno National Park to Gandhisagar Sanctuary, where she will join the other three cheetahs. CCB2’s journey—from Botswana to Kuno, and now from Kuno to Gandhisagar—signifies a new beginning of continuity as she transitions from one wildlife ecosystem to another.
