Heavy rainfall in MP: Alert issued for 22 districts; schools, colleges closed in Satna; impact to intensify in Bhopal and Ujjain, check IMD predictions
Bhopal: The monsoon has once again brought a spell of heavy rainfall to Madhya Pradesh. Due to a strong active monsoon system in the eastern region, heavy rain is lashing several districts across the Jabalpur, Rewa, Shahdol, and Sagar divisions. The situation is most critical in Satna and Chitrakoot; in Chitrakoot, the Mandakini River is flowing above the danger mark.
Shops, hotels submerged
Around 400 shops and 20 to 25 hotels at Ramghat have been submerged. In view of the rain and flood conditions, orders have been issued to keep all schools, colleges, and Anganwadi centers in Satna district closed. A heavy rain alert has also been issued for Satna and Chitrakoot for the next two days.
Impact to intensify in western regions, including Bhopal
According to meteorologist Arun Sharma, a low-pressure area is active over the Bay of Bengal. A trough is passing through the southern region, while the monsoon trough is also active overhead. These three weather systems are sustaining the rainfall activity. The system is likely to strengthen further over the next three days.
Heavy rainfall will continue in eastern Madhya Pradesh. Rainfall activity is also expected to intensify in some districts of the Bhopal and Narmadapuram divisions.
Weather system will move forward
On September 3, the weather system will move forward, affecting the Bhopal, Ujjain, Gwalior, Sagar, Narmadapuram, Rewa, and Jabalpur divisions. Its impact is likely to be more pronounced in western Madhya Pradesh on September 4 and 5, with the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the Bhopal, Ujjain, Narmadapuram, Gwalior-Chambal, and Sagar divisions.
