LK Advani, S Jaishankar, ex-Army chief, ex-SC judge get SIR notices by ECI in Delhi
New Delhi: Union Minister S Jaishankar and his wife, Kyoko S Jaishankar, are the latest VVIPs to receive Election Commission notices under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Delhi.
The growing list includes ex-Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and his family, CBI Director Praveen Sood and his family, former Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and his wife, and former Supreme Court judge Ranjana Desai and members of her family.
Several serving and retired senior bureaucrats have also received notices because of discrepancies in their records or the Election Commission’s inability to link their current details to those in the electoral rolls prepared during the previous revision.
Responding to concerns over the notices, Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer clarified that their issuance did not mean the recipients’ names would be removed from the electoral rolls.
Jaishankar and his wife have been placed in the “unmapped with last SIR” category, indicating that their current electoral records could not be linked to the rolls prepared during the previous revision exercise in 2002. They are registered as voters in the Sunder Bagh electoral part of the New Delhi Assembly constituency.
CBI Director Praveen Sood, his wife Vanita Sood and his mother Kamlesh Sood have also been placed in the same category.
The list further includes former Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and his wife, Sunita Dwivedi, who are registered as voters in the New Delhi Assembly constituency.
Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and members of his family have also received notices under the SIR exercise.
Ex-SC Judge, CPM MP's wife get notices
Former Supreme Court judge Ranjana Desai and three members of her family have received notices under the “unmapped with last SIR” category.
The Election Commission has also issued notices to CPM MP John Brittas’s wife, Sheba Brittas, and their son, Anand Brittas, although their records were flagged for different reasons.
Notice issued to senior bureaucrats
Several serving and retired IAS officers are among those issued notices over discrepancies or the absence of a link with the previous electoral roll.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Securities and Exchange Board of India Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister Ajay Kumar Sood and Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava are among those listed as “unmapped with last SIR”.
