After staying away from television fiction for nearly eight years, Rashami Desai is finally making her much-awaited return to the small screen with Star Plus’ upcoming show Sayoneee. But for the actress, the long gap was never about a lack of opportunities.

Rashami reveals that she turned down several offers over the years, choosing to wait until she found a story and character she genuinely connected with. That search finally ended with Sayoneee and her character, Maya.

Known for playing memorable characters throughout her television career, Rashami shares that simply being visible on screen was never enough for her. What drew her to Sayoneee was the purpose behind its story and the opportunity to play Maya, a character she describes as rooted in reality rather than imagination.

Opening up about her return, Rashami Desai shared, “Maya is not just a character or an imagination. She is a very practical character that I am going to play in Sayoneee. And as an actor, I wouldn’t deny that I received many offers, but I turned them down because I didn’t feel connected to the stories or the characters that were coming my way."

Rashmi said further, "Every artist wants to play a character that is beautifully written. I wasn’t looking for a comeback on television; I was looking for a purpose. As an artist, we get a number of opportunities, but it’s not necessary to just be visible, work and earn money. You should do something that people remember you for, and that’s what I am known for. Sayoneee has that spark. I feel the story is bigger than the artists themselves.”

Sayoneee stars Rashmi Desai, Janhavi Soni and Gautam Singh Vig and is set to premiere on 23 September at 7:30 PM on Star Plus and JioHotstar.
