Union Minister for Cooperation and Home Affairs Amit Shah and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav called for a massive expansion of dairy farming in the state on Saturday, setting a target to increase milk collection to 50 lakh liters per day.

Addressing a state-level conference of cattle rearers at Bhopal's Dussehra Maidan, Shah stated that animal husbandry and dairy farming could become significant sources of prosperity for farmers and cattle rearers. He urged cattle rearers across the state to work together to achieve this ambitious milk production target.

Shah: Cooperative societies can boost farmers' income

Shah noted that milk producers could earn more by becoming part of cooperative societies instead of relying on middlemen. According to him, producers selling through cooperatives could receive approximately ₹55 per liter, whereas selling to middlemen yields only about ₹35 per liter.

He mentioned that the central government is creating an ecosystem for making products like curd, butter, and cheese from milk. As part of efforts to strengthen the animal husbandry economy, he also emphasized breed improvement, better breeding techniques, animal feed, artificial insemination, biogas, and manure production.

Shah stated that India's milk production has risen from approximately 140.7 million tonnes in 2013-14 to over 250 million tonnes in the last decade. He added that Madhya Pradesh would play a pivotal role in the Centre's 'White Revolution 2.0' initiative.

₹255 crore dairy plant in Ujjain

Shah digitally performed the bhoomi pujan (groundbreaking ceremony) for a ₹255 crore milk processing plant in Ujjain with a daily capacity of three lakh liters. He also inaugurated a fermented dairy product plant (40,000-liter daily capacity) and a state-level quality laboratory in Bhopal, as well as the strengthening of a mini dairy plant in Shivpuri.

Shah also mentioned that ₹15.10 crore has been transferred as dividends and bonuses to cattle-rearing members of the Bhopal and Indore milk unions, while ₹88 crore has been released for gaushalas (cow shelters) across the state.

MP heading towards a new White Revolution: CM

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav stated that Madhya Pradesh is heading towards a new 'White Revolution' and has now become the country's third-largest milk-producing state. He noted that the state has over 80 lakh cattle rearers and more than six crore livestock.

Yadav announced competitions for outstanding cattle rearers across all 313 blocks, with prizes of ₹1 lakh, ₹50,000, and ₹25,000 for the top three winners. He also announced 168 new gaushala ambulances and large cattle fairs to promote high-yield breeds.

The Chief Minister stated that the state would expand dairy cooperative societies to more villages to achieve the target of collecting 50 lakh liters of milk daily.
