Cold weather arrives in Bhopal a month early: night temp dips to 18 degrees, what IMD told?
Bhopal: The weather in Madhya Pradesh’s capital city of Bhopal has changed rapidly, and for the first time since 2018, cold has set in even before the monsoon has completely departed. On Friday, the minimum temperature in the city's Airport Road area dropped to 18 degrees Celsius. Last year, the mercury was 22.8 degrees Celsius on October 2nd, meaning this year's temperature is lower by a significant 4.8 degrees Celsius.
All four weather stations in the city recorded temperatures up to 2 degrees lower than last year. According to meteorologists, the cold winds from North India have arrived earlier this year. These winds typically become active in the last week of October or early November, but this time, their early arrival has resulted in premature cool weather.
Snowfall in hilly areas and the impact of western disturbance
Weather experts say that the early activation of a Western Disturbance and the snowfall that has begun in the mountainous regions has led to an early onset of cold in the plains. Due to local topography and wind patterns, slight variations in the coldness are being observed in different areas during the morning.
Cold in open areas
In open and less concrete areas like the airport and Kolar, the ground cools down faster due to clear skies, causing the mercury to drop quickly.
In densely populated and concrete-built areas like Arera Hills, roads and buildings absorb heat during the day and release it slowly at night, keeping the temperature slightly higher.
Night temps will continue to drop: IMD
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), night temperatures will continue to drop with the withdrawal of the monsoon, leading to clear skies and reduced humidity. In the coming days, the minimum temperature in Bhopal and the Navi Bagh area is expected to hover around 19 degrees Celsius. Kolar and the airport area will be colder, while temperatures may remain slightly higher in the concrete areas of the new city.
