Datia: Four old coins believed to date from the Mughal period were found during cleaning work in the Laxman Tal area of Datia. The coins were discovered by local resident Anju Rajak while cleaning a plot.

Instead of keeping the coins, her husband, Pritam Rajak, decided to hand them over to the district administration because of their possible historical value. The couple presented the coins to Collector Swapnil Wankhede.

The Collector appreciated their decision and said that historical or archaeological objects found during cleaning or in public places should be preserved and handed over to the authorities. Such actions, he said, reflect civic responsibility and help protect the region’s heritage.

The four coins appear, at first sight, to be from the Mughal period. However, their exact age, metal, inscriptions and historical significance will be established only after examination and documentation by experts or the concerned department.

Datia has a rich historical and cultural heritage, and ancient objects have been found in the area from time to time. The decision to hand over the coins gives the administration an opportunity to properly examine and preserve a possible piece of the region’s history.
