Madhya Pradesh: Turning farm waste into opportunity: Sagar farmer's green initiative
Madhya Pradesh: Vivek Dubey, a farmer from Belai village in Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh, has launched a new initiative to promote organic and natural farming. As part of the 'Kahani Seva Ki' (Story of Service) series under the 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan 2026', his work is being highlighted for reducing farmers' dependence on chemical fertilizers.
Dubey has begun setting up a unit to produce vermicompost and organic fertilizer on approximately 1.5 acres of land. Before starting the project, he underwent specialized training in Bhopal. More than 100 beds, measuring 4×50 feet and 4×36 feet, have been prepared on his farm. Each bed is expected to yield approximately 1 to 1.5 tonnes of organic manure.
His goal is to eventually produce around one tonne of organic fertilizer daily. He is also working on producing organic DAP, aiming for a phosphorus content of approximately 10%.
The project entails an estimated investment of ₹40–50 lakh. Scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sagar, and Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University, Jabalpur, are providing technical guidance.
Agricultural officials have also inspected the unit and assured Dubey of technical support. If the project succeeds, farmers in the region will have easy access to organic fertilizer.
