MP to Emerge as Pharma, Biotech and Medical Devices Hub: CM Mohan Yadav

The Madhya Pradesh government is striving to attract greater investment in the pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and medical devices sectors. The government is focusing on manufacturing as well as research and exports.


Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav discussed these opportunities with representatives of major pharmaceutical companies during a roundtable meeting in Mumbai. He stated that the state possesses the necessary industrial base, skilled workforce, and infrastructure to expand this sector.


Madhya Pradesh is home to over 300 pharmaceutical companies and more than 30 companies manufacturing APIs and bulk drugs. Pharmaceutical clusters are spread across Indore, Pithampur-Dhar, Bhopal-Raisen, Ujjain, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Dewas, Bhind, and Morena. The state's pharmaceutical products are exported to over 160 countries; the export value for 2023-24 stood at approximately ₹11,889 crore.


Dr. Mohan Yadav noted that 54 pharmaceutical investment proposals worth approximately ₹19,477 crore have been received over the past 18 months. These projects have the potential to generate around 18,646 jobs. Land has already been allotted for 34 projects worth approximately ₹12,306 crore, while 14 units have commenced production.


The Industrial Promotion Policy-2025 offers incentives for investment, research and development, testing, quality certification, exports, and eco-friendly production.


The Vikram Udyogpuri Medical Device Park in Ujjain has also attracted significant attention. Land has been allotted to 57 units, 17 of which have already started production. The park is expected to attract investments worth approximately ₹2,374.86 crore and generate around 9,625 jobs. The government is also developing a 1,666.3-hectare mega industrial park in Ratlam, with a primary focus on the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and chemical industries.


Representatives from IDMA, Ipca, Ajanta Pharma, Lupin, Macleods Pharmaceuticals, Gufic Biosciences, Cipla, Glenmark, Alkem, and other companies participated in the meeting held in Mumbai.
