Bhopal: On the occasion of 'Police Commemoration Day' on Tuesday, Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav announced that the ex-gratia compensation of Rs 1 crore, provided in the event of a police officer’s martyrdom, will be divided equally between the deceased's wife and their elderly parents. Under this decision, 50% of the amount will be allocated to the wife, and the remaining 50% will be given to the parents, ensuring that the needs of both the immediate family and the elderly parents are addressed.

The Chief Minister made this announcement during a state-level tribute ceremony organized by the Madhya Pradesh Police at the 'Martyrs' Memorial Complex' (Shaheed Smarak Parisar) at the Lal Parade Ground in Bhopal. He paid homage by laying a floral wreath in honor of the police personnel who lost their lives while safeguarding the nation's internal security and maintaining law and order.

Priorities for Police Welfare and Security

The Chief Minister stated that the government is committed to the welfare of police personnel and their families, with a special focus on recruitment, promotions, and the provision of better facilities. He further noted that Madhya Pradesh has successfully overcome the 35-year-old challenge of Naxalism—a feat credited to the courage of security personnel and sustained, ongoing operations.

Yadav emphasized the vital role of the police and armed forces in protecting national unity, integrity, and public order. He also underscored the need for coordinated action to combat emerging threats, such as cybercrime.

Nine Madhya Pradesh Police Personnel Martyred This Year

Director General of Police (DGP) Kailash Makwana reported that nine personnel from the Madhya Pradesh Police laid down their lives while on duty this year. The 'Roll of Honour' for 'National Police Commemoration Day' included the names of 154 police personnel from across the country who lost their lives in the line of duty between September 2025 and August 2026. Makwana stated that it is the moral responsibility of the police force to look after the families of martyrs. He also mentioned that in 2025, a record 110 'out-of-turn' (early) promotions were granted to police personnel for their contributions during anti-Naxal operations.

The ceremony included a parade, a performance by the police band, and the reading of the 'Roll of Honour'. Chief Minister Yadav and other dignitaries laid floral tributes to the martyrs and met with the families of the fallen police personnel.
