Bhopal: With the commencement of the 'Deepotsav Mela 2026', Gauhar Mahal in Bhopal has transformed into a vibrant, festive venue. The fair will continue until November 7. Visitors are exploring a wide array of traditional earthen lamps (diyas), decorative items, and handicrafts brought by more than 50 artisans from various parts of Madhya Pradesh.
The main attraction here is the collection of handmade earthen products crafted specifically for Diwali. Visitors can find beautifully designed lamps, lanterns, 'petromax'-style lamps, and traditional figurines. Art pieces such as the 'Gwalin' (milkmaid) and the 'Ram Darbar' from Orchha are also drawing significant attention.
A Glimpse into India’s Traditional Art
The fair offers visitors an opportunity to discover traditional craftsmanship and local art styles all under one roof. Artisans are showcasing decorative torans (door hangings), bandhanwars, and various other items used for home decoration during Diwali. The traditional 'Lamaniya Diya' from Bastar is another highlight, showcasing the diversity of folk art.
Visitors can interact with the artisans and learn about the skills required to create these products. These colorful displays reflect the creativity of local artisans and the cultural traditions associated with the festival.
Organized jointly by the Madhya Pradesh Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation and the Mati Kala Board (Earthen Art Board), the fair will run until November 7. It serves as an excellent platform for artisans to showcase their work and reach new customers.
