Indore: The congestion on Indore’s roads is increasing every month, as the number of vehicles steadily approaches the city's population. This trend was particularly evident in October, when 22,564 new vehicles were registered in the city—the highest monthly figure recorded so far this year.

These registrations include 16,161 two-wheelers and 4,423 cars. Two-wheelers alone accounted for approximately 72 percent of all new vehicle registrations. The October figure surpasses the previous monthly record set in January.

Rising Number of Electric and CNG Vehicles

There is a significant shift in the choice of fuel. Among the vehicles registered in October, 2,997 were electric and 2,032 were CNG-powered. Together, these 5,029 vehicles represent 22.3 percent of the total registrations. In other words, roughly one out of every 4 to 5 newly registered vehicles was either electric or CNG-powered.

Pressure on Traffic and Parking

The growing number of vehicles is leading to increased congestion at busy intersections, in marketplaces, and on main roads. Simultaneously, finding parking space is becoming increasingly difficult.

A comparison of annual registration data from all 53 Regional and District Transport Offices (RTOs) in Madhya Pradesh will be conducted in December, which will provide a clearer picture of the situation in Indore.
