
In a recent update at least 23 person have reportedly died in the blast in cracker factory in Batala under Gurdaspur District in Punjab. The bodies of the dead are yet to be identified. 16 people are admitted in the hospital out of them 4 are said to be in a serious state and are referred to Amritsar.
Several laboures are still feared trapped inside the debris of the factory. Fresh rescue teams are being called from Ludhiana and Himachal Pradesh to speed up the rescue operations.
The blast was so strong that nearby building also collapsed with the factory taking the toll on the rise. Windows panes were smashed in the blast in 1 KM radius of the factory. A car and bike parked near the factory was also destroyed in the blast. The factory was a three story building which totally crumbled like pack of cards

Compensation has been announced to the next of kin and those who are injured in the blast. A case has been registered against the factory owner as the factory was termed to be illegal and was running in an residential area.
