Karnataka by-election: Voting on 15 seats continues

According to the reports coming in polling for the by-election for 15 assembly seats in Karnataka has started at 7 am on Thursday. This by-election will determine the fate of Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa and the BJP government in the state. Voting began at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm. Election results will be announced on December 9.

A total of 37.78 lakh voters are eligible to vote, who will vote at a total of 4,185 polling stations. Apart from this, there are 4,711 service voters. There are 19,25,529 males, 18,52,027 females and 414 others in the electorate. There are 79,714 youth voters among them.

These by-elections are being held to fill the vacancies created by disqualifying 17 MLAs. These MLAs included rebel leaders of Congress and JD. HD Kumaraswamy's government fell in July due to the rebellion of these MLAs and the BJP came to power. After disqualifying the legislators, the Assembly currently has 208 members, of which BJP has 105, Congress 66 and JD 34 MLAs. The BSP also has an MLA. Apart from this, there is a nominated MLA and Speaker.
