US To Maintain Robust Counter Terrorism Capabilities In The Region: US State Secretary

Latest reports have been coming in from US Secy of State Antony Blinken who at Ministerial talks on Afghanistan has said that we must hold Taliban, including the recently announced caretaker government.

Any eventual Afghan govt, to their commitment to allow foreign nationals, visa holders and Afghans to travel outside the country if they wish According to US Secy of State Antony Blinken.

Taliban has said repeatedly that any Afghans who want to travel & have appropriate documents will be able to do so.

And more than a hundred countries have affirmed their expectation Taliban will honor that pledge. It’s also enshrined now in a UNSC resolution according to Antony Blinken.

We have heard in some of our engagements with Taliban their concern about so-called brain drain.

One of the things we shared with them was the best way to get people to stay in Afghanistan is to allow them to leave Afghanistan as well as to uphold their basic rights.

Whether they will take that to heart remains to be seen. But as a practical matter, a key step to enabling such a movement is resuming commercial airport ops in Kabul.

We are especially grateful to governments and UN agencies working on that according to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Taliban’s committed to preventing terrorist groups from using Afghanistan as a base for external ops that could threaten any of us.

A pledge they have since extended not just to us but to all other countries. We need to hold them accountable to that commitment according to US Secretary of State.

Of course, we can’t just rely on Taliban to meet these commitments. Horrific attack that ISIS-K carried out on Aug 26th.

This has killed 13 US service members and many, many Afghans, did show the serious threat that these groups continue to play inside Afghanistan according to US Secy of State.

All of us have to remain vigilant and monitor threats and address them swiftly when they arise.

US will maintain robust counterterrorism capabilities in the region to neutralize any threats and we won’t hesitate to use those capabilities if we have to do so according to US Secy of State.
