Dalbir Kaur, Sarabjit Singh's Sister Dies in Pak Prison, Dies


Dalbir Kaur, the sister of Sarabjit Singh who was sentenced to death by a Pakistani court in 1991 and died in 2013 in Lahore, died on Saturday night.
His last ceremonies will be held today at Bhikhiwind in Punjab.

Sarbjit Singh was a farmer from Bhikhiwind in Punjab near the India-Pakistan border, who accidentally crossed the border after drinking a few drinks. However, he was sentenced to death by a Pakistani court in 1991.

Sarabjit Singh was detained at Kot Lakhpat Prison in Lahore for 22 years and after that, he was beaten by his inmates and taken to hospital. Singh died at Lahore's Jinnah Hospital after five days in a coma after suffering a severe head injury in a 2013 attack on a prison premises.

During the 22 years in prison, his older sister Dalbir Kaur had fought with the system to free his brother.

Dalbir Kaur had always insisted that his brother, Sarabjit Singh was innocent and had accidentally fled to Pakistan during his arrest. He also went to Pakistan to see his brother.

The Foreign Ministry then asked the Pakistani government to investigate Singh's death, and his sister, Dalbir Kaur, also asked for an investigation into the case, saying: "If the attack was planned by the government itself, it means. no need for investigation. But if Sarabjit is attacked without the knowledge of the authorities, an investigation is certainly needed. "
