Speeding or driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in Punjab will now attract community service at a hospital or mandatory blood donation as punishment under the new traffic rules issued by the state authority. police today.
Fines increase after the first offense, but community service remains the same.

A first offense of speeding will be punishable by a fine of ₹1,000 and suspension of driving license for three months. There is a fine of ₹ 5,000 for driving under the influence of alcohol in addition to the suspension of the driving license for the same period.

For other offences, there will be a fine of ₹2,000 for speeding, again along with a suspension of driving license for three months, for drunken driving in addition to a fine of ₹10,000.


Offenders will also be required to complete a refresher course with the Transport Office and teach at least 20 9th to 12th graders for at least two hours at a nearby school for each offense. After that they will be issued a certificate by the nodal officer which will be verified by the authorities at the time of payment of fines.

In addition, offenders will have to perform community service for at least two hours at a nearby hospital or donate at least one unit of blood at a nearby blood bank.

All traffic offenses are associated with a certain monetary fine and suspension of the license for three months.

Fines for other offenses are:

Jumping red lights -- ₹ 1,000 for first offense and ₹ 2,000 for subsequent offences, using mobile phones while driving -- ₹ 5,000 and ₹ 10,000, carrying overload or people in trucks -- ₹ 20,000 and ₹ 2 for 2 , and ₹ 40,000 and ₹ 2,000 per tonne more and traveling by more than two persons on two-wheelers -- ₹ 1,000 and ₹ 2,000.
