Where is the Governor as rain wreaks havoc in Maharashtra, asks Sanjay Raut

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Thursday said there is no government in Maharashtra at present as the Eknath Shinde-led dispensation is "illegal" and asked where is Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari as rain wreaks havoc in the state.
Talking to reporters here, Mr. Raut said that cholera has broken out in many parts of the state resulting in deaths.

"Maharashtra is under quarantine again. Nearly 100 people have died due to floods," he said.

According to state government data, 83 people died due to rain-related incidents between June 1 and July 10. These deaths were caused by incidents such as floods, lightning strikes, landslides, falling trees and collapsed structures, among others, the State Disaster Management Authority said in a report.

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Health reported that 181 people had contracted cholera, five of whom had died.

"There is no government in the state in such a situation. There is no government in the state because this is an illegal government," Mr. Raut said.

"Where is our governor now? There is no government in the state, there is no cabinet," he said.

The Shiv Sena insists that the new government was formed illegally as a plea to disqualify Shinde and 39 rebel Sena MLAs is pending in the Supreme Court.

40 MLAs rebelled against the party leadership, leading to the collapse of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in the last week of June.

"Floods are wreaking havoc in the state. Where is the governor? He was leading us till yesterday. Where is he now? The state needs his leadership now," Mr. Raut said.

A Rajya Sabha member said that many Sena MLAs who have switched parties may be disqualified. The sword of disqualification hangs over the rebel lawmakers, he said.

The cabinet expansion has not yet taken place as the Supreme Court is yet to decide on the party disqualification petitions filed by the MLAs, the Sena MP added.

"Swearing in (rebel) MLAs is not in accordance with the constitution. This is political corruption. The governor should not do anything against the constitution," he said.
