Bihar By-Election Battle At Interesting Juncture: Why Nitish Kumar Is Not campaigning?

Patna: After the change of power in Bihar, the fight for the by-elections for two seats of the state assembly has reached an interesting juncture. Grand Alliance candidates are in the fray in both Mokama and Gopalganj seats.

This is the first time when people will vote ever since JD(U) severed ties with BJP: The bypoll is going to be interesting as this is the first time when people will vote ever since Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) or JD(U) severed ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA government to join hands with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

The bypolls will be the first test for the Nitish Kumar-led Grand Alliance in the state. This is the second time when the government of Grand Alliance, or Mahagatbandhan, is in power.

Besides JD(U), RJD and Congress, the alliance comprises CPIML(L), CPI, CPI(M) and HAM of former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi.

Voting on Nov 3: Bypolls on the Mokama Assembly seat (Constituency No - 178) and Gopalganj Assembly seat (Constituency No - 101) will be held on November 3 and results will be announced on November 6.

Will Nitish campaign? Meanwhile, there is a lot of political rhetoric about whether Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will go to Mokama and Gopalganj for campaigning. However, during the Chitragupta Puja on Thursday, the Chief Minister said that he had hurt his leg. Therefore, until the injury is not healed, he cannot go to the election campaign.

RJD candidates are in the fray on two seats from the Grand Alliance. Whereas BJP candidates are contesting from NDA side. Both sides have put their full strength. Campaigning is going on in both the assembly seats. But Nitish Kumar is not going for election campaign at present.

BJP candidates: Kusum Devi, the wife of former Gopalganj MLA Subhash Singh, and Sonam Devi would be the BJP candidates from Gopalganj and Mokama, respectively.

Tejaswi will campaign in Gopalganj: The possibility of Tejaswi Yadav campaigning in Mokama from RJD has also come to an end. Tejaswi is going to Gopalganj for election campaign. But no program for his visit to Mokama has been decided so far. RJD sources tell that Tejaswi Yadav is also not going for Mokama campaign.

Nitish is not campaigning to save his image: On the other hand, discussion has started in the political corridors after Nitish Kumar distanced himself from the election campaign at the last moment. Earlier, there was news of CM Nitish holding a rally in Mokama in support of RJD candidate Neelam Devi, wife of strongman Anant Singh. Relationship between Anant Singh and Nitish Kumar is not good.

BJP targeted Nitish: Despite this, Nitish Kumar had decided to go for campaigning there in the interest of the grand alliance. After this the CM came under attack from BJP. It is said that Nitish Kumar has decided not to campaign in favor of RJD candidate Neelam Devi to keep his image clean. So at the last moment the programme of his rally was postponed.

Senior BJP leaders in Mokama: In Mokama senior state level leaders are continuously campaigning in favor of BJP candidate Sonam Devi. But no leader had reached Mokama from the side of the Grand Alliance. But according to the information that is coming out now, JDU's national president Lalan Singh will do campaigning in Mokama. During this, Lalan Singh will also do a road show and seek votes for Anant Singh's wife Neelam Devi.

Tough fight likely in Gopalganj: The Gopalganj assembly seat in Bihar is all set to witness a tough fight in the November 3 by-poll as the BJP is going all-out to retain the constituency, while the ruling Mahagathbandhan's largest constituent RJD is leaving no stone unturned to wrest it from the saffron camp. BJP nominee Kusum Devi is up against RJD's Mohan Gupta whose nomination was supported by the seven-party grand alliance, formed after stripping the saffron camp of power in the state in August.
