Gujarat: PM Narendra Modi to lay foundation of C-295 transport aircraft manufacturing facility in Vadodara


Vadodara: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of a manufacturing facility for C-295 transport aircraft in Vadodara in Gujarat on Sunday. 

The C-295 planes would be manufactured at the Gujarat facility with an aim to modernise the IAF fleet. Narendra Modi is set to visit his home state of Gujarat on Sunday to lay the foundation stone for a manufacturing facility of the Tata-Airbus consortium.

The facility will cater to export of the aircraft as well as for additional orders by the IAF. The aircraft can be used for civilian purposes as well, Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar had said.

Modi will embark on a three-day Gujarat tour from Sunday and launch a host of projects in different parts of the state where the assembly elections are expected to be announced soon. He will also address a gathering at Leprosy Ground in Vadodara.

According to Defence Ministry officials, 96 per cent of the work that Airbus does in its facility in Spain would be done in the Indian facility and the electronic warfare suite for the aircraft would be done by public sector Bharat Electronics (BEL).
