BF.7: Four Cases Of Omicron Sub-Variant BF.7 Found In India Amid Spike In Cases In China; Stay Alert Against New Strains: Dr. Mandaviya


New Delhi: In many countries around the world, including China, amidst the rising cases of Corona, a worrying news has come to the fore in India as well. Actually, Omicron's sub-variant BF.7 is being held responsible once again for the deteriorating condition of Corona in China. At the same time, now four cases of Omicron's sub-variant BF.7 have also been detected in India. After which the Central Government and the Ministry of Health have become alert.

Cases reported from these states

According to information, the first case of BF.7 in India was detected by the Gujarat Biotechnology Research Center in October. He said that so far three cases have been reported from Gujarat and one from Odisha.

Woman who traveled to America found infected in Gujarat

Meanwhile, Surat Municipal Commissioner Banchha Nidhi Pani said that a woman traveling to America was found positive for BF.7 variant on November 18 in Vadodara. She recovered after home isolation and now her condition is normal. No need to panic, the situation is under control.

Cases found in July, September and November

If sources are to be believed, cases of Omicron sub-variant BF.7 were reported in India in July, September and November. A total of four cases have been registered so far. Three cases have been reported from Gujarat and one in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. No further cases of the sub-variant have been reported. Significantly, cases of Omicron's sub-variant BF.7 are currently increasing rapidly in many cities of China.

Stay alert against new and emerging strains of Covid: Health Minister

Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare today chaired a high-level meeting to review the Covid-19 situation in India and preparedness of public health system for surveillance, containment and management of virus in view of the recent spike in cases of corona in some countries.

Health Minister was briefed on the global Covid-19 situation and the domestic scenario. Underlining the challenge posed by the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in some countries across the world such as China, Japan, South Korea, France and United States, Union Health Minister noted the importance of being prepared and remaining alert against new and emerging strains of Covid-19, especially in view of the upcoming festive season.

Dr Mansukh Mandaviya urged people to follow Covid Appropriate Behaviour and get vaccinated against Covid.

The Union Health Minister was briefed that India has been witnessing a steady decline in cases with average daily cases falling to 158 in the week ending 19th Dec, 2022. However, a consistent rise in global daily average cases has been reported since last 6 weeks, with 5.9 lakh daily average cases reported in week ending 19th Dec, 2022. A new and highly transmissible BF.7 strain of the Omicron variant has been found to be behind a wider surge of Covid infections in China.
