Covid-19 Precautions: Health Ministry Urges States To Undertake Mock Drills

New Delhi: The Health Ministry urged the States to undertake mock drills across all health facilities to ensure the operational readiness of Covid-dedicated facilities with a specific focus on oxygen plants, ventilators, logistics & human resources. The government has announced precautions to prevent the surge in Covid in the country.

Earlier on Friday, Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia highlighted the ongoing vaccination drive, launched by the Centre government, against Covid-19 amid the fear of a covid surge in the country.

Nasal vaccine approved

Amid a spurt in Covid cases in China and some other countries, Bharat Biotech's intranasal Covid vaccine has been approved by the Union Health Ministry as a booster dose for those above 18 years of age.

The needle-free vaccine will be available at private centres. It will be introduced on the Co-WIN platform soon, official sources said.

It is expected to be rolled out in the national Covid vaccination programme soon.

Positivity rate declining

Meanwhile, the Centre government on Friday said that the Covid positivity rate in the country is declining week-on-week.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday said the positivity rate came down to only 0.14 per cent in the week ending on December 22.

"Consistent decline in cases in India is recorded with five states accounting for 78 percent of the daily new cases reported on December 22," the Health Ministry said, adding that 8 states and 4 UTs currently have zero reported active cases.
