Covid 19 Review Meeting: India Taking Precautionary Measures To Avoid China Like Surge; Mansukh Mandaviya To Hold Meeting With States, UTs

New Delhi: Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will hold a meeting with health ministers of states and Union territories on Friday in the wake of rising Coronavirus cases in some parts of the world.

India is taking precautionary measures to avoid China like surge. A Covid alert has been sounded at tourist destinations, including the Taj Mahal, and random sampling of international travellers has started at airports.

Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have revived random screening of people at bus stands, railway stations and airports. The Delhi government has called an emergency meeting, while Karnataka is set to issue new guidelines as the situation develops.

Mandaviya said in Rajya Sabha that the government is constantly monitoring the situation. There are no direct flights between China and India but people come via other routes, he said.

He said the focus is to ensure that no unknown variant of the virus enters India and at the same time there is no impediment to travelling.

The Union Health Ministry asked the Civil Aviation Ministry to ensure random post-arrival Covid testing of two per cent of arriving passengers in each international flight at airports from December 24, to minimize the risk of ingress of any new variant of coronavirus in the country. -
