Football Legend Pele Hospitalized, Family Members Reach Hospital

Sao Paulo: The condition of Brazilian football great Pele, who is battling cancer, is not improving. He is hospitalized in Sao Paulo. Pele has celebrated the Christmas festival here. Looking at his health,  family members have started reaching the hospital. Pele's health has been steadily declining, affecting his kidneys and heart.

According to the hospital, the 82-year-old footballer has been kept under special care. His kidneys have been affected. 

Son's emotional post for Pele

Edinho, Pele's son -- who was recently appointed coach of Serie B football club Londrina in the north Brazil-- arrived on Christmas Eve at the medical center, where he joined his sisters Flavia and Kely Nascimento. He posted an Instagram photo of himself holding the football star's hand, captioning it: "Father... my strength is your."

Pele was not responding well to chemotherapy treatment

His colon tumor was removed in September 2021. After that Pepe had undergone chemotherapy. Pele had been hospitalized several times before. This time also he had come for regular check-up, but gradually his condition started getting critical and he has not been able to come out till now. Pele had heart problems and his medical staff expressed concern that he was not responding well to his chemotherapy treatment. After this he was taken to the hospital.

Father still in the fight, says daughter

The eldest daughter of Brazilian football legend Pele said her father “was still in the fight” as he battles advancing cancer in a Sao Paulo hospital.

Kely Cristina Nascimento posted an image on Instagram in which she is seen embracing the 82-year-old with his face only partially visible, Xinhua news agency reported.

Scored 77 goals

Pele made his country Brazil three times world champion. Brazil won the World Cup in 1958, 1962 and 1970 under him. Scored two goals in the 1958 World Cup final against Sudan. Pele played a total of 1363 matches in his professional career and scored 1281 goals. He scored 77 goals in 91 matches for Brazil.
