BCCI Announces New Selection Committee, Chetan Sharma Retained As Chairman

Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced the new Senior Selection Committee. Former fast bowler Chetan Sharma has been re-appointed as the chairman of the committee.
Apart from him Shivsundar Das, Salil Ankola, Subroto Banerjee and Sridharan Sharath are the other four members of the committee.

BCCI had sacked earlier panel in November last year

The need to appoint a fresh committee came up after the BCCI dissolved the earlier panel on November 18 last year - the advertisement was published on the BCCI's website the same day - not long after India were eliminated in the semi-final of the men's T20 World Cup. The board sacked the then selection committee after India's dismal performance in the T20 World Cup held in Australia. Chetan Sharma was the chairman of that committee as well.

Sharma will continue his role despite the panel led by him being dissolved last year. Chetan Sharma had applied for the post once again and appeared for an interview on Monday.

The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Ms Sulakshana Naik, Mr Ashok Malhotra, and Mr Jatin Paranjape undertook an extensive process for selecting members of the All-India Senior Selection Committee. The Board received around 600 applications following its advertisement for the five posts issued on its official website on 18th November 2022.

The BCCI said it announced the names of the Chairman and four other members after due deliberations.
