Joshimath Landslide: Cracks Widen On Badrinath Highway Of Strategic Importance, Threat Of Sinking Increases

Joshimath: Badrinath Highway of strategic importance has come under the threat of Joshimath landslide. Joshimath which is sinking is known as the gateway to Badrinath. Big cracks on the highway have become a cause of concern. If the cracks do not stop, then a large part of the highway can sink at any time. In such a situation, the Indian Army can be cut off from the border of China.

Road beyond Badrinath leads to China border

The distance from Joshimath to Badrinath in frontier district Chamoli is about 46 km. The road beyond Badrinath leads to the China border. In view of the challenge of infiltration on the China border, the central government's emphasis is on preparing a network of roads along the border.

Experts inspect highway

The experts team which reached Joshimath to study from Dehradun has also inspected the highway. Experts believe that if the landslide does not stop, it can cause huge damage to the highway at any time. This is a very sensitive matter.

Widening of Badrinath Highway is in progress 

Along with this, the work of widening Badrinath Highway is also going on. The aim is that the roads should be so wide and convenient that in the event of a crisis, the Indian Army with all its equipment can reach the border easily and quickly.

Cracks on Badrinath deepen

BRO is trying to start the work of widening the highway so that the army can easily reach the China border, but the effect of this landslide is clearly visible on the highway. Deep cracks have appeared in the highway. The cracks have deepened a bit in the last two days.

Work on Helang Bypass is also stopped

Although the Helang bypass, which is being built as an alternative, is also being constructed, but for the time being its construction has also been stopped. The landslide happening in Joshimath has worried not only the affected families but also the Border Roads Organization (BRO).
