Republic Day-2023 Parade: Kartavya Path Witnesses Prowess Of Armed Forces With Hi-Tech Indigenous Weapons

New Delhi: On the 74th Republic Day, President Droupadi Murmu unfurled the tricolor on the Kartavya Path. She was accompanied by the chief guest Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, who was warmly welcomed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 

This was followed by the national anthem and a booming 21-gun salute. For the first time salute was given by Indian cannons. Till now salute was given from guns made in Britain. With this the parade started.

The first Republic Day parade on Kartavya Path began with PVC, Ashok Chakra winners.

Kartavya Path witnessed the prowess of the armed forces armoured with hi-tech indigenously made equipment. 

March by contingent of Egyptian Armed Forces

The Republic Parade 2023 kicked off with a march by a contingent of the Egyptian Armed Forces.

The Indian Armed Forces has been rendering its selfless service to the nation and its countrymen, ensuring stability and dominance on the frontiers along the Line of Control (LoC), the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and worldwide through UN Peacekeeping missions. 

Indian Army's Lethality, Accuracy and Reliability witnessed a leap with the acquisition of platforms like Akash Missile System, satellites, Modular Bridges, towed guns, utility helicopters, electronic warfare system and the likes of surface-to-air missiles.

Made-in-India weapon systems showcased 

This year, only Made-in-India weapon systems were showcased at the Republic Day parade including ammunition showcased India's indigenization power, including 21 Gun Salute through 'Made in India' 105 mm Indian Field Guns, recently inducted LCH Prachand, the K-9 Vajra howitzers, MBT Arjun, Nag anti-tank guided missiles, Akash air defence missiles, and the Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicles.

Horse-mounted Cavalry Regiment

61st Cavalry, the only serving active Horse-mounted Cavalry Regiment in the world, is marching at Kartavya Path. Their motto is 'Ashva Shakti Yashobal'.

The detachment of the Main Battle Tank Arjun of 75 Armored Regiment marched down the Kartavya Path. This was led by Captain Amanjeet Singh.

Agniveers in Naval contingent 

The Naval contingent of 144 young sailors led by Lt Cdr Disha Amrith as Contingent Commander marched down Kartavya Path.

The marching contingent for the first time in history consists of three women and six men Agniveers.

Apart from Arjun tank, Vajra cannons and Akash missile system, BrahMos missile was seen on the duty path. The special thing is that all these are indigenous weapons.

Women officers in camel contingent of BSF

For the first time, women officers have been included in the camel contingent of the Border Security Force (BSF) on Republic Day. The Surface to Air Missile System Akash contingent will be commanded by Lieutenant Chetna Sharma. These will include 3 members of the Army and one each of the Airforce and Navy.

Lt Chetna said that her dream has come true. Chetna is posted in the Army Air Defense Unit. Apart from Chetna, Lieutenant Dimple Bhati will be part of the Army's daredevils motorcycle team. She said that for this she has been training for the last one year.

No drugs message

The tableau of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) will be seen in the parade for the first time. No drugs will be its message. Apart from the NCB members, two members of their dog squad will also be present in this tableau. The names of these dogs of the canine squad are Limbu and Jelly. They have played a role in getting drug consignments caught in many operations.

Colourful tableau from states

Colourful tableau from Assam, Maharshatra, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gujarat, West Bengal and several other states and Union Territories rolled down the revamped Kartavya Path, with 'Nari Shakti' being the theme for majority of the floats.
