Tamil Nadu: Crane Collapses During Temple Festival In Arakkonam: 4 Die, Many Injured

Ranipet (Tamil Nadu): A crane collapsed during a festival at the Mandiamman temple in Tamil Nadu's Arakkonam in Ranipet district on Sunday night, police said. Four people have died in the accident and 9 are injured. Police officials said that the operators of the crane have been detained. Cranes were not allowed to be used in the festival.

"The crane collapsed all of a sudden and three people died. The injured were rushed to the government hospital. One of them succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning," a senior police official said.

The deceased have been identified as S Bhoopalan (40), B Jothibabu (17), K Muthukumar (39) and Chinnasamy (60).

The incident occurred on Sunday evening. Mayileru festival was going on at Mandiamman temple in Arakkonam. During this, some people were garlanding the God idols by hanging from the crane. The crane suddenly became imbalanced and fell.

The video of the accident has also surfaced, in which it can be seen that many people are hanging on the crane. They had garlands in their hands. Meanwhile, the crane fell due to loss of control. After the accident, there was a stampede in the temple. Some people tried to rescue the devotees buried under the crane.
