Congress Plenary Session In Raipur: Sonia Says Party Never Backed Down From Struggle; Kharge Hints At Alliance To Oust BJP

Raipur: Expressing concern over the current situation in the country, former Congress President Sonia Gandhi attacked the BJP government at the Center in the ongoing 85th session of the Congress in Chhattisgarh's capital Raipur.

She also said that Congress people will have to struggle against BJP. It is not easy, but Congress has a history of struggles. That's why she has full hope that the party will get success in its efforts.

Sonia said that for the first time in 1998, she became the President of the Congress. In the last 25 years, the party got many successes and had to face disappointment many times. Amidst all this, the party has continuously fought for the betterment of the country and this gives her the maximum satisfaction.

Targeting the BJP government, Sonia said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP government are attacking all democratic institutions. They are attacking the constitution of the country. They are hurting the soul of the constitution.

Condition of the country is continuously getting worse

She said that the condition of the country is continuously getting worse. The BJP government is engaged in fulfilling its own interests. The conditions are largely the same as they were at the time of her entry into politics. Congress people will have to struggle to improve the situation. It will not be easy, but Congress has never backed down from struggles. That's why she is sure that they will win in the end.

Hints at retirement

Sonia also hinted at retirement from politics. Sonia said in her address on Saturday – With the Bharat Jodo Yatra, my political innings is now at its last stop.

For the first time, Sonia talked about the ups and downs since assuming the chair of the party president. She said- When I became the party president for the first time in 1998, till today i.e. in the last 25 years, there have been many good and some bad experiences.

Be it the party's performance in 2004 and 2009 or my decision to make Manmohan Singh the Prime Minister. It was satisfying for me personally. For this I got full cooperation of the party workers. What gives me the most satisfaction is that my innings can now come to an end with the Bharat Jodo Yatra. This is a turning point for the party.

Kharge said – there is an atmosphere of hatred

Party President Mallikarjun Kharge said that there is an atmosphere of hatred in the country. He said his party looks forward to making a feasible alternative by allying with like-minded parties to oust the anti people BJP government in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

In his address at the Congress' 85th plenary session, Kharge said the country is facing challenges such as continued assault on constitutional and democratic values, issues of national security at the border with China, all-time high inflation and record unemployment.

"In the prevailing difficult circumstances, the Congress is the only party in the country that can provide capable and decisive leadership," he asserted.
