Syria Turkey Earthquake: Fourth Major Quake Rattles Turkey, Toll 4500, Seven Day National Mourning In Turkey

Ankara: A fourth major earthquake of 5.6 magnitude rattled the central Turkey region on Tuesday, hours three after destructive earthquakes hit Turkey and Syria on Monday, killing more than 4,000 people and the toll continues to rise. 

Latest reports say 4500 have been confirmed dead so far. Thousands more are injured and the search for survivors is on. Many countries, including India, are sending in supplies and relief material.

Rescue teams search through the rubble

The death toll is feared to rise as rescue teams search through the rubble. The epicenter of the first quake was near Nurdagi in Gaziantep province, the Syrian border. The other two quakes struck in the nearby KahramanmaraÅŸ province. 

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has declared seven days of national mourning during which the Turkish flags will fly at half-staff across the nation and at its diplomatic missions overseas.

Survivors are being searched under tons of debris 

After 4 major earthquakes, the situation in Turkey and Syria has become worse. Even after 24 hours, the dead bodies continue to be pulled out. Still survivors are being searched under tons of debris of huge buildings.

A woman was pulled out alive after 22 hours in Turkey's Sanlıurfa province. The rescue team found this woman in unconscious condition. 

People are being pulled out by cutting roofs of buildings

On the other hand, in Aleppo, Syria, people are being pulled out by cutting the roofs of the buildings. This is the scene in many cities of both the countries.

More than 4500 people have died in both the countries. Nearly 3000 people have lost their lives in Turkey. There is news of more than 15 thousand people being injured. At the same time, nearly 1500 people were killed in Syria and more than 2 thousand were injured.

Over 5000 buildings have collapsed in 10 provinces of Turkey

Devastation in 10 provinces of Turkey, while Syria's Aleppo city destroyed. There has been heavy devastation in more than 10 provinces of Turkey. More than 5000 buildings have collapsed here. 

Aleppo worst hit in Syria

Syria's war-torn city of Aleppo is among the areas to have borne the brunt of devastating earthquakes.

Emergency rescue teams said many buildings were damaged or destroyed and that people were trapped under the rubble.

The region is home to millions of refugees displaced by the civil war.

Control of northern Syria is divided between the government, Kurdish-led forces and other rebel groups. They remain embroiled in conflict.

Historic buildings damaged

Many of the earthquake-affected areas here are under the control of Bashar al-Assad's government and the rebels, due to which it is difficult to get the exact figure of devastation.

Several historic buildings were damaged in the city of Aleppo. According to UN spokesperson, 224 buildings have collapsed in North West Syria. And 325 buildings have been extensively damaged.
