Uttar Pradesh: SDM, SHO Among 40 Booked For Murder After Woman, Daughter Burnt Alive During Encroachment Removal In Kanpur Dehat

Kanpur: A 45-year-old woman and her daughter, 20, were burnt alive during removal of encroachment in Kanpur Dehat, Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred on Monday evening when the police-administration had gone to remove illegal encroachment from the government land. 

The family alleged that cops set their hut ablaze when the women were inside. On the complaint of family members, a murder case has been registered against 40 people including SDM Matha Gyanenshwar Prasad, Rura SHO Dinesh Gautam, lekhpal Ashok Singh.

A woman ran into the hut, screaming. She locked the door from inside. The police also reached behind her and broke open the door. Meanwhile, a fire broke out in the hut. 

The woman and her daughter were inside. Both were burnt alive in front of the police force and officers. At the same time, the woman's husband Krishna Gopal got badly burnt while trying to save both of them.

Villagers infuriated after death of women

The police called a bulldozer to put out the fire and demolish the burning hut. A 2.30-minute video related to this incident that took place  has surfaced. After the death of mother-daughter in Madauli village of Maitha tehsil, the villagers were enraged. 

The villagers chased away the police-administrative officers. The officers saved their lives by running away. 

Officers set hut on fire: Family of deceased

The villagers started assaulting the officers. The family of deceased Krishna Gopal alleged that the officers had set the hut on fire. In view of the tension in the village, heavy police force has been deployed. 

The villagers kept on creating ruckus till 12 midnight. The relatives did not allow the dead bodies to be lifted till 12 midnight. 

Kanpur Commissioner Raj Shekhar, DM Neha Jain, ADG Alok Kumar and other officers stayed on the spot till late night. Minister of State Pratibha Shukla also reached and talked to family members. Then at 1 o'clock in the night the dead bodies of the mother-daughter were sent for postmortem.

Govt land was encroached by building temple: DM

DM Neha Jain has said that the government land of the village was in illegal possession of the family of the deceased. Government land was being encroached upon by building a temple. They were stopped. FIR was lodged. 

Even after this, the platform of Shivling was being made pucca. Some people living in the village of the deceased family had complained in the public hearing.

Women attacked officer with sickle: DM

To remove the encroachment, a team of administrative officers along with the police had reached the spot. While removing the encroachment, women came and tried to stop it. They also attacked an officer with a sickle. 

The DM said that after this the mother-daughter went inside the hut and set it on fire. SO Rura's hand also got burnt while saving the mother-daughter. 

A committee has been constituted to investigate the matter. If the negligence of any officer comes to foret, action will be taken against him as well.
