Indore Temple Mishap Toll Rises To 35; Joy of Ram Janmotsav Turned Into Mourning; Rescue Still Continues, Army Called

Indore (MP): In Madhya Pradesh's commercial capital Indore, 35 people have lost their lives so far in the accident on Ram Navami. CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan has ordered an inquiry in this matter. Apart from this, the state and central governments have announced financial assistance to the families of the victims. On Thursday people in Indore were engrossed in the celebration of Ram Navami. 

Havan was going on in the Beleshwar Mahadev temple of Sneh Nagar, one of the oldest areas of the city, on Ram Janmotsav, but when people stood at their place for Purna Ahuti, a big accident took place. Due to the collapse of the stepwell's roof, dozens of people fell into a pit about 50 feet deep. 

Army called

After NDRF, now Army has also been called to assist in rescue operations.

Indore Divisional Commissioner Pawan Sharma has confirmed the death of 35 people in the accident so far. At the same time, 18 people have been rescued so far.

Suddenly the ground caved in at the time of Purna Ahuti, says survivor

One of the survivors Rajesh Yadav who fell into the stepwell and was taken out by the rescue team said that suddenly the ground caved in at the time of Purna Ahuti. He said he along with others fell into the stepwell. Everyone was crying. 

Rajesh said somehow he reached the corner of the stepwell. The floors around were sinking. 10-12 people arounf Rajesh saved them from falling by holding stones. A woman was being taken up by a rope when she fell from above and could not save her.

On the other hand, water was repeatedly filling in the stepwell, due to which the rescue was affected. Sewerage water was also coming. Police pulled people out of the well with the help of local people using ropes. Officials suspect that some more bodies may still be buried under the debris.
