Covid-19: Warning Of New Wave Of Corona In Australia, People Advised To Take Booster Dose

Canberra: Amidst rising Coronavirus cases in India, Australia's top doctor has warned the country to be ready to deal with a new wave of Covid-19 before winter.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Paul Kelly and Health and Aged Care Minister Mark Butler said the government would launch a new COVID-19 advertising campaign on Sunday to reinforce the importance and value of vaccination.

Health Minister Mark Butler said experts expect another wave of coronavirus infections this year. "This is not over," he said in Canberra.

This follows advice from the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunization for an additional COVID-19 booster dose for 2023.

Butler said at a press conference on Thursday, “If it has been more than six months since you were infected, or six months ago when you had your last dose of the Covid vaccine, now you can go out and take a vaccine to protect yourself. And get additional doses, whether it's your 3rd, 4th or 5th dose."

Kelly said increasing coverage of booster vaccines was vital before new waves of infection are predicted in Australia during the colder months of the year.

One million Australians have received booster doses for 2023 since they were made available in early February, according to Department of Health figures.
