ISSF World Cup: Sift Kaur Samra Wins Her First Individual World Cup Medal; India Bags 7 Medals

Bhopal: India's Sift Kaur Samra won her first individual World Cup medal on the final day of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Bhopal. 

India's Sift, a medical student and defending national champion, won the bronze medal in the women's 50 meter rifle 3 position (3P) after scoring 403.9 in the top-eight ranking round. In this event, China's Zhang Qiang Yu won the gold medal and Czech Republic's Anita Brabkova won the silver medal.

Manini Kaushik missed qualification by a narrow margin

India's Manini Kaushik missed the qualification by a narrow margin. She finished ninth with a score of 584, while Anjum Moudgil finished 13th with a score of 583. The two other Indians in the field, Shriyanka Sadangi and Ashi Choksey, who were playing only for ranking points, scored 582 and 581 respectively.

In the men's 25 meter rapid fire pistol, China's Zhang Xueming won the gold medal by scoring 35 points in the 40-shot 8-series medal match. Tokyo Olympic finalist and Cairo World Cup silver medalist Clement Besaguet of France won the silver medal with 34 hits. Christian finished third with 21 hits.

India's Vijayveer Sidhu finished 9th in the ranking round with 581, Anish Bhanwala 10th with 581 and Ankur Goyal 14th with 574. Bhavesh Shekhawat scored 578 and Mandeep Singh scored 575.

India finished second with 7 medals

China topped the ISSF World Cup Shooting Championships with 8 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals (12 medals in total). India finished second with one gold, one silver and 5 bronze (total 7 medals) and Germany came third with one gold, one silver and one bronze (total three medals).

Winning players honoured

At the conclusion of the competition, President of Special Olympics Bharat, Dr. Smt. Mallika Nadda and wife of Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Smt. Sadhna Singh honoured the winning players with medals. Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Smt. Yashodhara Raje Scindia congratulated all the technical officials, jury members and NRAI members for the successful event and honoured them with mementos.
