Strong Tremors Jolt Delhi-NCR, Many Other States In North India; Panicked People Spend Night Outside Their Homes; Nine Die In Pakistan, Over 300 Hurt

New Delhi: Strong earthquake tremors were felt in many states of the North India including the National Capital Region on Tuesday night at around 10.18 pm. Many other countries were also jolted by powerful tremors. According to the information, the epicenter of this earthquake was in Faizabad, Afghanistan. 

According to the reports received and eyewitnesses, strong tremors of earthquake were felt twice in the night in Delhi-NCR. The tremors of the earthquake were so strong that people came out of their homes due to fear. 

In many areas of Delhi-NCR, Ghaziabad, people spent the whole night outside their homes. There was an atmosphere of fear in many localities and scared people said they would not go back to their homes as they feared more tremors could occur.

Tremors were also felt in Pakistan, Afghanistan and many other countries. Nine people have died and more than 300 people are said to be injured in Pakistan. Two have dies in Afghanistan. No damage was reported in India.

Tremors felt in Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, UP, J&K

Earthquake tremors were also felt in Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir apart from areas around Delhi.

Panicked people ran out in Delhi, Noida

The intensity of the earthquake has been measured at 6.6 on the Richter scale. In the adjoining parts of Delhi, including Noida, people were seen running out of their homes and offices as the buildings started shaking.

Residents in Noida saw chairs, tables moving

Some residents of Noida Hyde Park Society said that they first saw the things like chairs, tables etc moving, while some others told that the ceiling fans were also shaking. The intensity of the earthquake was quite strong and tremors could be felt for a long time, they said.

A cab owner in Delhi said he felt the earthquake while he was waiting for passengers near Connaught Place in central Delhi and immediately raised an alarm.

Jyoti, a resident of Lajpat Nagar in south Delhi, said she was watching television when she suddenly saw the TV and sofa were shaking. She and her family members rushed out of their home.

Tremors felt in many dists of Rajasthan

Earthquake tremors were also felt in many districts of Rajasthan including Jaipur, Sikar, Karauli. Here too people ran out of their homes. They called each other and informed about the earthquake. People ran out of the house in Bikaner, Jodhpur, Alwar, Ganganagar, Ajmer, Jhunjhunu. They also informed his relatives and acquaintances by calling them.

People scared in Jaipur, Jodhpur

Tremors were first felt in Jaipur in Rajasthan. Earthquake tremors were felt here in many colonies including Malviya Nagar, Mansarovar, Vaishali and Bapu Nagar. People living in multi-storeys came out of the houses and for once there was an atmosphere of fear. 

On the other hand, on the Pal Road of Jodhpur, people got scared due to the late night earthquake. While in some areas of Sikar also, tremors were felt for about 3 to 4 seconds.

In Churu, the medical students living in the hostel of the Medical College also came out of the hostel. Tourists staying in the hotels of the pilgrimage city of Pushkar came out of their hotels after feeling the tremors of the earthquake.

Tremors also felt in MP's Gwalior

The tremors were also felt in MP's Gwalior. People felt tremors for a few seconds. People living in high-rise buildings in the city came out on the road. Panic was seen among the people regarding the earthquake. Some people in Bhopal also told about experiencing tremors.

Nine die in Pakistan

According to Pakistani media reports, 9 people have died. More than 302 people are said to be injured. No damage was reported in Afghanistan and North India.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported the magnitude of the earthquake as 6.8. Earthquake tremors were felt in many cities  of Pakistan including Islamabad, Lahore, Quetta, Rawalpindi, Peshawar. 

The earthquake caused cracks in the walls of several high-rise buildings in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. After this there was chaos among the people. There is also news of the destruction of many houses. Rescue teams are present on the spot. The injured are being taken to the hospital.

According to the PMD, the earthquake occurred at 9:47 pm (Pakistan time). An aftershock of 3.7 magnitude was recorded an hour later. Its center was also in Afghanistan. Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has asked the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to be prepared in case of emergency.

Strong tremors felt in Afghanistan, many other countries

There are reports that strong tremors were felt in Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, China, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan.
