Weather News: Fresh Wet Spell Over North India Plains, Rain & Snow Over The Hills Expected

New Delhi: Delhi and NCR witnessed rain and thundershowers during evening hours of March 20. On and off rain continued until late night. Many districts of Haryana and Punjab as well as Northwest Uttar Pradesh recorded moderate to intense rain leading to significant drop in temperature. 

Fresh spells of rain over North India and rain and snow over the hills have been predicted by the Sktmet Weather.

Temp dips in Delhi 

Temperature of Delhi dropped to 16 degrees from 21 degrees in a span on one hour between 18:30 and 19:30 hours. Similar fall in temperature occurred over many parts of North India.

According to Skymet Weather, multiple weather systems were responsible for these weather activities. A western disturbance is moving across Western Himalayas.

Weather will start clearing up today on March 21st. However, isolated afternoon thunderstorm and passing rain cannot be ruled out over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. 

Another wet spell

Another wet spell is anticipated between night of March 23 and March 25th over North India. Many parts of Rajasthan particularly Northwest and central districts may also witness pre monsoon thunder shower activities during that period.

Widespread rain and snowfall over Himachal and Uttarakhand 

Widespread rain and snowfall over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand has been recorded. Many districts of Himachal Pradesh such as Kinnaur, Lahul and Spiti, Kullu, Keylong and Chamba have recorded light to moderate snowfall. Rain and thundershower activities with isolated hailstorm was witnessed over Kangra, Mandi, Hamirpur and Shimla.

Parts of Uttarakhand also recorded rain with snowfall. Places like Uttarkashi, Gangotri, Chamoli and Rudraprayag witnessed rain and snow. These rain activities will continue for another 24 hours over Himachal Pradesh. However, Uttarakhand may witness rain and isolated snowfall until March 22nd.

Fresh spell of rain, snowfall in Western Himalayas

Weather will start clearing up over all the hilly States thereafter. Another Western disturbance will approach Western Himalayas by night of March 24. Once again, rain and snow to occur over many parts of Western Himalayas including Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. These weather activities make continue until March 26th.
