Ajmer: Panchtirth Snan In Pushkar Starts From May 1; What Is Significance of Holy Bath

Ajmer: In Rajasthan, Panchtirth Snan of Vaishakh month will start from May 1 near Ajmer in Tirtharaj Pushkar, the city of the creator of the universe, Jagatpita Brahma.

This holy bath at the holy lake of Pushkar will start with Mohini Ekadashi bath and will continue for five days with religious rituals and will end with Maha Snan on May 5, the full moon day.

This bath is recognized in the same way as Kartik bath is considered. Even in the scriptures, the bath of Vaishakh month has been described as the best. Vaishakh month's bath and Kartik bath are equivalent while Pushkar Sarovar is considered equivalent to Ganga ji.

Seeing the crowd of potential devotees in view of the five-day bath on the month of Vaishakh, the  priests have started preparations. Apart from cleanliness, the municipality is also going to organize security arrangements at the ghats of Pushkar Sarovar.

Over 500 Hindu temples are situated around lake

Pushkar Lake or Pushkar Sarovar is a sacred lake of the Hindus. The Hindu scriptures describe it as Thirtha Raj and relate it to the mythology of the creator-god Brahma, whose most prominent temple stands in Pushkar. The Pushkar Lake finds mention on coins as early as the 4th century BC.

Pushkar Lake is surrounded by 52 bathing ghats (a series of steps leading to the lake), where pilgrims throng in large numbers to take a sacred bath. A dip in the sacred lake is believed to cleanse sins and cure skin diseases. Over 500 Hindu temples are situated around the lake precincts.
