Doors of Kedarnath Dham in Uttarakhand Open; Temple Decked Up With Flowers; 8000 Dvotees Will Have Darshan Today Despite Bad Weather


Rudraprayag (Uttarakhand): The doors of Kedarnath Dham in Uttarakhand opened at 6.20 am on Tuesday amid chanting of shlokas and beating of drums. Jagadguru Rawal Bhim Shankar Ling Shivacharya, the chief priest of the temple, opened the doors of the temple. The temple was decorated with 20 quintals of flowers.


It has been snowing here for the last 72 hours. Thousands of pilgrims going to the temple were stopped from proceeding due to bad weather. Devotees still arrived in large numbers. Over 8 thousand devotees are expected to have a darshan of Baba today.



Devotees undeterred by subzero temperature


The process of opening the doors had started from 5 in the morning itself. Along with religious rituals, the Panchmukhi Bhog idol of Baba Kedar reached the temple premises from Rawal Niwas in Doli. The devotees recited hymns. The temperature is around minus 6 degrees. Even after this, long queues were seen outside the temple from 4 am onwards.



Doors of Badrinath Dham will open on April 27


The Chardham Yatra started on Saturday from Akshaya Tritiya. In the next 5 days, Hindu pilgrims will visit Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yamunotri and Gangotri. The doors of Gangotri and Yamunotri were opened on 22 April. The doors of Badrinath Dham will be opened on 27th April.


Registration of pilgrims for Kedarnath Dham Yatra stopped


The Uttarakhand government has now stopped the registration of pilgrims for the Kedarnath Dham Yatra till April 30 in view of the heavy snowfall on the pedestrian route to Kedarnath and the meteorological department's warning. 


The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy snowfall in Kedarnath Dham Marg and Dham. Bad weather is expected in Kedarghati for the next one week.


The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for the heavy snowfall on the Kedarnath Dham route.


The weather is expected to remain inclement in Kedarghati over this week, according to an official statement. 


The Uttarakhand government said the weather is expected to remain bad in Kedarghati for the next one week. On the alert of the Meteorological Department, the state government has stopped the registration of the visit to Kedarnath Dham. The heavy snowfall in Kedarnath has created difficulties for the administration.


Avalanche warning


In view of the avalanche warning, the district administration is taking necessary action. Kedarnath Dham received intermittent rain and snowfall on Sunday. The state government has issued an advisory for the pilgrims. Yatris have been told to keep warm clothes and essential items with them before going to the Dham.
