ED's Unmatched 9 Years Against Corruption, Properties Of Over 95000 Crores Attached, Opposition Alleges - Action Taken With Sense Of Revenge

NEW DELHI: The action being taken by the Enforcement Directorate i.e. ED has given the Opposition across the country an opportunity to attack the government. Along with the huge increase in the cases registered by the ED, cases have also been registered against the leaders of the opposition parties.

In such a situation, the Opposition has been continuously alleging that the BJP-ruled central government is doing politics of vendetta. During the last few years, the action against corruption by ED has intensified. The situation is that many big and influential leaders have been facing ED action. Cases under the Money Laundering Act have also been registered under the Foreign Exchange Management Act.

ED ACTION INCREASED BY 505 PERCENT

Several major actions have been taken by the Enforcement Directorate against corruption in the past as well. But the activeness of ED in the present era can be gauged from the fact that in the last four years, a tremendous increase of 505 per cent has been recorded in the number of cases registered by the investigating agency.

Finance Ministry sources reveal that there has been 505 percent that is more than five fold increase in the cases registered by theED in 2021-22 compared to 2018-19. Whereas in the year 2018-19, 195 cases were registered by ED which has increased to 1,180 in 2021-22. Guerrilla action and search operation by ED has also risen rapidly.

NUMBER OF SEARCH OPERATIONS INCREASED

Finance Ministry figures show that only 112 search operations were conducted by the ED between 2004 and 2014. In which illegal income of Rs 5,346 crore was attached. But between 2014 and 2022, the number of search operations increased from 2,555 per cent to 2,974. During this, illegal income of Rs 95,432.08 crore was attached by ED.

BIG ACTION TAKEN AGAINST OPPOSITION LEADERS

Not only K Kavitha of BRS, many other big leaders of the Opposition are being questioned by the ED. Not only this, Aam Aadmi Party leader and former UP CM of Delhi Manish Sisodia has been arrested. He is currently lodged in Delhi jail in connection with an ED case.

Along with him, Satyendar Jain, who was a minister in the Kejriwal government, is also in jail. On the other hand, Mamta Banerjee's TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee and former West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee along with Shiv Sena UBT MP Sanjay Raut and Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren have been questioned by the investigating agency.

OPPOSITION IS CONSTANTLY TARGETING CENTRE

It is being said that fair action is being taken by the ED, but the Opposition does not believe in it. With the increase in the number of cases registered by the ED, many Opposition leaders have also been booked. Due to this, the BJP-ruled central government has come under attack from the Opposition. The opposition is constantly alleging retaliation.

The leaders of the Opposition have been continuously accusing the central government of misusing investigative agencies like ED and CBI, using them as political weapons. Whereas from the side of the government, it has only been described as action against money laundering.
