Security Beefed Up In Entire State After Murders Of Atiq Ahmed And Ashraf; Sec 144 Imposed; Probe Panel Formed


Lucknow: Vigilance has been increased in entire Uttar Pradesh including Prayagraj after the murder of mafia Atiq Ahmed and his brother and former MLA  Ashraf. Prohibitoty orders under Section 144 of CrPC have been imposed in all districts of UP.


According to reliable sources, Section 144 has been implemented in Prayagraj after the murder of Atiq and Ashraf. Police forces are searching suspicious vehicles in the city. As a precautionary measure, the security of Umesh Pal's house has been increased. Security agencies are interrogating the three youths who carried out the incident. Security forces have been alerted in the entire state.


Flag march in various dists


UP police on Sunday conducted a flag march and patrolled various districts in the state. The police also conducted a flag march in Lucknow's Husainabad. The police were also seen patrolling in Mathura. According to the UP police officials, security has been beefed up in various districts after the incident.


CM Holds High-level Meeting


According to sources, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a high-level meeting of police and administrative officials and directed departmental action against 17 policemen posted under the security of Atiq and Ashraf. 


Chief Minister also gave instructions for the formation of a three-member judicial commission (judicial enquiry commission) to probe into the matter.


Significantly, late Saturday night, three gunmen disguised as media persons killed Atiq and Ashraf when they were being taken to the hospital for regular check-up in police custody.


Briefing reporters about the incident, Commissioner of Police, Prayagraj, Ramit Sharma said the three killers, who were arrested immediately after the incident, had joined the group of mediapersons.


"In accordance with a mandatory legal requirement, Atiq Ahmad and Ashraf were brought to the hospital for a medical chekup. According to preliminary information, three men posing as journalists approached them and opened fire. Ahmad and Ashraf were killed in the attack. The attackers have been held and are being questioned," Sharma said.
