Similar action against Namazis has been taken in Aligarh district of the state.

Section-144 was also applicable in the Kanpur district on the day of Eid. Police have started investigation by registering an FIR under serious sections against those offering Namaz there.

One of the FIRs was registered at the Bajaria Police Station against 1,000-1,500 persons including some members of the Eidgah management committee on the complaint of Senior Sub Inspector (SSI) Omveer Singh.

Omveer Singh in his complaint said a large number of people got down to offer namaz on the road as soon as a call for it was made on Eid, violating Section 144.

About 300 people were booked by Jajmau Police, while the third FIR was made at Babu Purwa Police Station in which over 50 people were charged with offering namaz on a public road without permission.

Brijesh Kumar, in-charge of Begumpurwa Chowki said – Peace committee meeting was held before Eid. In this, the people of the area were told that Namaz would not be offered on the road. Eid prayers will be offered only inside the Idgah and the mosque.

A police officer said people offering namaz will be identified on the basis of video after which legal action will be taken against them.

The people were booked under IPC sections 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharging duties), 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 283 (Danger in public way), 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint), and 353 (criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty).

Action in Aligarh

Similarly, in district Aligarh, the police have taken strict action in the case of Namaz on the road on the occasion of Eid and last Friday of Ramzan. A case has been registered at Delhi Gate and Kotwali police station under relevant sections like violation of prohibitory orders, obstruction in official work etc. The police is now busy in scanning the CCTV footage to identify the accused.

A particular community is being targeted: AIMPLB

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has expressed displeasure over the FIR. Board member Mohd. Suleman said, “A particular community is being targeted. It seems that the nation has become of one religion."

Namaz has been held inside the campus in the mosque and Idgahs. There is no big Idgah in Babupurwa. If space is not available, the worshipers offer Namaz on the road for 10 minutes.

Suleman said- Our society runs on the constitution. Article-19 of the constitution protects the religious beliefs and cultural identity of all communities, but this government is not running according to the constitution. Yogi's government is tearing apart the Constitution.

He said- The government is doing such things that people are being killed in police custody.  People offered Namaz on the platform in Farrukhabad, so where did the unrest spread? The public did nothing, the policemen did. When Taraweeh was read on the terrace in Moradabad, an FIR was registered.
