Uttar Pradesh: Mukhtar Ansari Sentenced To 10 Years And Afzal To 4 Years; Afzal May Disqualify As MP


LUCKNOW: Don Mukhtar Ansari of Purvanchal, Uttar Pradesh has been sentenced to ten years in jail. Along with this, a fine of five lakh has been imposed. Ansari's brother and BSP MP Afzal has been sentenced to four years by the MP-MLA court. 


After the punishment, now the possibility of Afzal disqualifying as MP has also increased. A gangster case was registered against Afzal Ansari on the basis of the case registered in the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai. 


While a case of murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai and Nandkishore Gupta Rungta was registered against Mukhtar Ansari.


Accused of assaulting ASP


In 1996, gangster Mukhtar Ansari made a life-threatening attack on an ASP level officer to maintain his influence. Several cases were also registered against Ansari under the MCOCA and the Gangster Act. In 1997, there was also an allegation of abducting a businessman in Purvanchal, Uttar Pradesh. 


His name came in murder of Krishnanand Rai


Earlier in 1991, Ansari had created a sensation when he escaped from police custody. During this, the lives of two police personnel were also lost. After almost two decades, the Ansari family lost election of MLA. The Ansari family's tussle with Krishnanand Rai, who won the election, was going on when he was killed in the meantime. Mukhtar Ansari was also accused being involved in this murder case. The graph of these crimes kept increasing and about 5 dozen cases were registered against Ansari.


Noose tightened in Yogi government rule


Law enforcement agencies in Uttar Pradesh also looked dwarf in front of Mukhtar's increasing crimes and boldness. Meanwhile, in 2017, the Yogi government of BJP came and started tightening the noose on Mukhtar. When the strictness increased, leaving UP, Mukhtar took refuge in the jail of Punjab. Then on the orders of the court, the Punjab government had to hand over Mukhtar back. 


He has been lodged in Banda jail since he was brought back last year. Now Mukhtar's property worth 400 crores in Mau, Ghazipur, Lucknow has either been confiscated or demolished.


Elected MLA for 5 consecutive terms


If we look at the political journey of Mukhtar Ansari, then in 1996 he won the assembly elections for the first time. After this Mukhtar has been an MLA for 5 consecutive terms. In the 2022 assembly elections, he handed over his seat to his son.
