Wrestlers Protest: 2 FIRs Registered Against WFI Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh; What Wrestlers Said? Priyanka Also Meets Westlers

New Delhi: Two FIRs have been registered against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh at Delhi's Connaught Place police station on Friday.

The Delhi Police has registered a case against Brij Bhushan under the POCSO Act for sexually abusing a minor wrestler, which is non-bailable. At the same time, the second FIR has been registered on the charges of molestation of other 6 female wrestlers.

Why Brij Bhushan is being shielded, asks Priyanka

Priyanka Gandhi visited the protesting wrestlers at the dharna site and extended her support to them. She asked why Brij Bhushan is being shielded. She said these wrestlers are the pride of the nation, why they are not being given justice. On the other hand the wrestlers have not so far received the copies of FIRs.

Priyanka Gandhi, who is scheduled to take part in a series of poll campaign events in Karnataka later in the day, reached Jantar Mantar on Saturday morning and interacted with the wrestlers.

Priyanka Gandhi had earlier also tweeted: When these wrestlers win medals we all tweet, feel proud but today they are protesting & are not getting justice

Brij Bhushan should be put in jail immediately: Punia

Wrestlers spoke to the media after the Supreme Court's decision. Bajrang Punia said – Brij Bhushan should be put in jail immediately. We will not get up from here till he is put in jail. They are saying that the players did not give any proof. If the evidence had not been given, the Supreme Court would not have ordered the FIR.

Nothing is going to happen just by FIR: Phogat

Vinesh Phogat said – FIR should have been done on the first day itself. Nothing is going to happen just by FIR. There are already more than 85 FIRs against Brij Bhushan. They will have to be removed from their posts and put in jail. We will not give any evidence to any committee or Delhi Police now. We will give evidence in the court itself. Brij Bhushan should be removed from all posts with immediate effect, as he can misuse his positions.

We don't trust Delhi Police: Sakshi

Sakshi Malik said that we do not trust the Delhi Police. Still the case has been registered after the intervention of the Supreme Court. We will cooperate with the Delhi Police as well, but we should be heard. Now a decision will be taken to end or continue the dharna only with everyone's consent.

Kapil Dev, Neeraj Chopra, among others support wrestlers

Wrestlers have been protesting at Jantar Mantar for 6 days demanding action on WFI President Brij Bhushan. On Friday, former Indian cricket team captain Kapil Dev, Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra, tennis star Sania Mirza, actor Sonu Sood and actressed Swara Bhaskar and Urmila Matondkar also came out in support of the wrestlers.

"Shameful that our top International athletes are forced to protest on streets against sexual harassment but accused BJP MP is being consistently shielded by the govt. #IStandWithMyChampions Sack & investigate #BrijBhushanSharanSingh," actor Swara Bhasker said on Twitter.

I am not running anywhere: Brij Bhushan

On the other hand, WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh told the media on Friday evening that he has full faith in the judiciary. I am not running anywhere, I am in my house. I will cooperate with Delhi Police. Whatever is the decision of the Supreme Court, I will follow it.

I will speak once I've received the FIR copy, said Brijbhushan Sharan Singh on wrestlers' protest against him and FIRs registered.
