After Cheetah Cubs Death In Kuno Another Shock For Madhya Pradesh Wildlife Lovers: 2-Year-Old Female Leopard Beaten To Death In Khargone


Khargone: Angry villagers surrounded and killed a female leopard Friday morning in Chiriya forest range of Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh after a villager was injured. The shocking news has come a day after the news of death of two cheetah cubs in Sheopur’s Kuno National Park. 


Divisional Forest Officer, Khargone, Prashant Singh said that information was received from the Chiriya forest area this morning that a leopard has been killed. Forest staff has been sent on the spot.


According to preliminary information, the leopard had injured a villager Umesh Dabar, a resident of Nan Kodi. After this angry villagers killed the leopard. Injury marks are visible on the leopard's mouth and jaw. 


Singh told that it would be clear only after the investigation under which circumstances the leopard was killed. He told that at the moment it is not clear whether the leopard was killed by someone alone or by more than one person.


He told that proper treatment is being given to the injured Umesh by bringing him to the district hospital Khargone.


He informed that a case is being registered under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 in the case of killing of 2-year-old female leopard.


He told that the dog squad has been called from the Indore-based State Tiger Strike Force, after which the post-mortem of the leopard will be done.


Bhikangaon Sub-Divisional Officer (Forest) Dinesh Vaskale said that villager Umesh Dabar had come out for defecation in the morning when the leopard attacked him, due to which both his hands were injured. He was brought to Primary Health Center Jhirnia from where he was admitted to the district hospital after first aid.


5 injured in attack by leopard in Sehore


In another incident, a leopard entered a village in Sehore district on Friday. Five villagers, including a policeman, were injured in the leopard attack. The forest department team took the seriously injured to the hospital with the help of the people. As soon as the information about the leopard entering the village came, people closed the door and imprisoned themselves in their homes.


According to the information, the villagers were busy in their work at Moya Pani village of Ichhawar police station area at around 9 am, when suddenly a leopard was seen. Seeing the leopard, there was a situation of chaos. Seeing the villagers, the leopard attacked them. The feline also attacked more than 6 cattle.


After about an hour the forest department team reached the spot. Forest Department's DFO MS Davar said that he is working with the team for the rescue of the leopard. Five people including Pathan Singh Barela (32), Savita Bai (10) and Shekhar Barela were injured in the attack.
