Morena: Morena district of Madhya Pradesh is famous for the sweet taste of its Gajak. The gajaks of Morena are very well-known and are exported internationally. The district is now is creating a distinct identity regarding honey production.
Women of many self-help groups associated with the livelihood mission of the district have become self-sufficient in honey production.
Morena district is known for the special taste of gajak and pure mustard oil, while the sweetness of honey is also dissolving.
Women are playing a major role
Many farmers and honey producers are associated with honey production, in which the women of their families are playing a major role. Scientists of Livelihood Mission, District Administration and Krishi Vigyan Kendra are taking special interest in this.
About 6 thousand people are associated with honey production. Hundreds of women associated with self-help groups are also selling honey in different states by joining this business.
District Project Manager of Livelihood Mission Dinesh Singh Tomar said that women have shown special interest in honey production. About 500 women are directly involved, while hundreds of women are also involved in this business along with their families.
Women have made a record by producing tonnes of honey
Women have made a record by producing tons of honey. A processing unit has also been set up at Pahargarh in the district. Due to the high production of Mustard Barshin (cattle fodder), Coriander, Ajwain etc. in the district, a suitable environment for flowering is available.
Dr. Yogesh Yadav, senior entomologist and honey bee expert of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, told that bees get a conducive environment which helps in honey production in Morena. More than six thousand people especially women are also associated with honey production.
Deepak Singh, commissioner of Gwalior-Chambal division, said that the farmers of Morena, especially the women of self-help groups, have achieved a new milestone in honey production. More training will be provided by the experts, in the coming days export of honey will be seen in many countries.
