Chardham Yatra 2023: Pilgrims Undeterred By Torrential Rain, Heavy Snowfall, Falling Stones


Chardham Yatra 2023: Despite rain and snowfall in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand, there is no decrease in the enthusiasm of the pilgrims undertaking Char Dham Yatra. So far, 11 thousand 487 pilgrims reached Badrinath Dham and had a darshan of Lord Badrivishal. Despite the rain, heavy snowfall and falling stones the faith of the pilgrims in Badrinath Dham did not waiver.


Pilgrims going on foot from Jankichatti to Yamunotri Dham 


Due to continuous snowfall and rain in Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham, the passengers had to face problems. It is also snowing at higher altitudes which has brought down the temperature significantly. Yamunotri Dham's last major stop is Jankichatti. From here pilgrims are going on foot to Yamunotri Dham amid torrential rains.

Similarly, stones are also falling from the hills near the Gangotri Highway near Bandar Court. The journey is smooth but the passengers are going for the journey risking their lives.


Snowfall in Kedarnath


On the other hand, due to snowfall in Kedarnath in the morning, the pilgrims had to face a lot of problems, while in Badrinath it has been raining since morning, despite this, a large number of people are reaching the shrines for darshan. 


Alert issued by Weather Department


District Magistrate Rudraprayag Mayur Dixit informed that an alert has been issued by the Meteorological Department for the next 2-3 days. In view of the possibility of rain and snowfall in the high Himalayan regions, for the safety of the pilgrims coming to visit Kedarnath Dham, an appeal has been made to stay at the same place till the weather improves. 


Appealing to all the passengers, Dixit said that all the passengers should take special care of their safety and cooperate with the district administration by following the guidelines issued by the state government and the district administration. He has expected all the yatris to start the journey to Kedarnath only when the weather is fine. He said that at present there is continuous snowfall in Kedarnath Dham. 


Pilgrims  not allowed to go to Kedarnath after 10.30 pm


Passengers are not being allowed to go to Kedarnath after 10.30 pm from Sonprayag. This morning 6048 pilgrims were sent from Sonprayag to Kedarnath Dham. After this, due to heavy rain, the passengers were stopped from going ahead.



SP Chamoli Pramendra Doval made a surprise inspection of Govindghat police station, the main stop of Shri Hemkund Sahib Yatra. He instructed to complete the travel arrangements on time. SP Doval met the manager of Govindghat Gurdwara Seva Singh and discussed about the yatra preparations.


Pilgrims had darshan of Maa Ganga


Today 12346 pilgrims had darshan of Maa Ganga in Gangotri Dham. Maharashtra's Sangeeta Ashok Mohite (48), wife of  Ashok Mahadev Mohite, resident of Kolhapur, who came on a drshan of Gangotri Dham, was declared dead after respiratory problem. On the request of the relatives, the Kotwali police performed the last rites of the woman at Kedar Ghat according to Hindi customs.


On the other hand 5600 pilgrims reached Yamunotri Dham and had darshan of Maa Yamuna.
